I read your response to SPYBUSA concerning gearing and drag racing. My question is somewhat different, I hope. The guys at the track all recommend for the eighth mile (which is what I run most often) that you go thru the finish line in third and immediately hit the rev limiter. After reading a lot of your recommendations, I realize that quite a bit of what you hear at the track is not necessarily true. My last trip to the track, I ran a 5.85, two 5.86s, a 5.89 and a 5.91 with 1.50 sixty foots. The gearing was 16/42 and my mph was approximately 122 and I was well in fourth. I have had some low 1.40 sixties with a 43 on the back which is what I just put back on, but again the "guys at the track" say that I ought to leave at a higher rpm or something so that I can go through the lights in third! What do the experts say? I use an MRE shifter (which trips the FI light and drive me nuts) do the extra shifts hurt that much? I weigh about 220.and no nitrous yet. 2005 Busa at about 68" 1397 with no head work and .385 lift cams on intake and exhaust BDE Gen III exhaust and your map Thank you very much. |

The new MPS box won't trip the light...drove me nuts also. I don't change anything different between 1/8 and 1/4 mile racing. The set-up which makes the bike fastest and easiest to ride consistently on the front 1/2 of the track is the set-up we want...the bike has NO IDEA the track is shorter when you race 1/8 mile… That being said- you would want to go through the traps as close to redline as possible- and one less shift might help a bit. **BUT**- not at the expense of loosing your front half et. I hope this helps. Brock
