Brendan Fitzgerald is a Retired Marine Corps First Sergeant who is now 90% Disabled due to injuries sustained from an IED in Iraq during his combat tour in 2004-2005. Prior to this unfortunate incident Brendan was a very avid CCS licensed road racer, riding a desert camouflaged Ducati 748R and tricked out SV 650. Due to the Traumatic brain Injury Brendan is not able to race anymore so with his passion for Ducati he took on a special build project using a Panigale Tricolore as his base. He reached out to many prominent companies telling them his story and seeking assistance for help on the parts and accessories he hoped for to make this project different than most other bikes and seriously a phenomenal eye catching project.
Brendan had certain set backs along the way within his personal life. He suffers from extreme headaches on a daily basis and underwent a series of painful cervical spine injections with 6 inch needles to cauterize the nerve endings within his neck. He also admitted himself to a two month in patient PTSD Program at the Baltimore VA Hospital where he credits the Doctors there with helping him cope with many things from his Iraq deployment. Brendan said that his "invisible wounds" far exceed the physical pain he endures, and highly recommends Veterans dealing with such PTSD try their best to take steps for helping themselves process and fight off the demons combat Vets carry with them in life. Brendan also obtained a hugely important part of his life who is without a doubt a true "battle buddy." After a very selective process Brendan was hand picked to receive a certified Service Dog named "Russell" who was specially trained by the organization Puppies Behind Bars-for Veterans afflicted with both PTSD and TBI. To Brendan, Russell is invaluable and goes with him EVERYWHERE, but he still cannot figure out how to get him to go on his short bike rides with him.
Brock's was proud to assist Brendan with this build since it helped him with his rehabilitation of using his hands to coordinate with the signals from the damaged portion of his brain, which unfortunately involved dexterity and his memory. Immediately after purchasing the bike Brendan reached out to Jeff Grieco here at Brock's and told him his story and what his goal was in life, to create a truly beautiful show quality style piece of art using his Ducati! Brendan says that he was extremely impressed with the level of customer service he received from Jeff who supported him the entire time!
Without help from all these people Brendan states he would not have been able to produce such an incredible looking Panigale: Bellissimoto, Terry Annecke of BST, Mike Cooper of TecMate, Andrew Cox of Cox Racing Group, Guido of Shift Tech Carbon, Martin of Motowheels, Sherwood Wang of Proti Titanium Bolts, David Lillard of Redline Performance in Yorktown, Sean Lezotte of Connecticut Cycle Refinishing, and of course his wife Lisa who stood by him in support all these years both before and after his time in Iraq!
