Team Brock’s Performance Products earned its second straight final round appearance in the 1000 Super Sport class, with a runner-up finish by interim team rider Rickey Gadson who overcame a crash at the AMA/Prostar Lucas Oil Spring Nationals in Richmond, VA, April 30th-May 1st.
Gadson’s personal bike was out of commission after taking a pounding at the Orange County Choppers filming. He wanted to hang onto his points lead and called Davidson to see if he could step-in for Team Brock’s Performance.

“I wanted to take care of him,” Davidson said. “Rickey took my brand new motorcycle that had never even been driven around the block, much less had any kind of performance work done to it. All I had time to do was get it out of the crate, install our new Street Megaphone Exhaust, and Dyno tune it with the just released Power Commander 3 USB.”

Nonetheless, Gadson qualified second on Davidson’s 2005 GSXR-1000 with an impressive 9.28 at 153 mph. Sunday morning in Pro ET, the front end washed out on the machine and Gadson went down at over 100 mph. He was uninjured, but the bike slid for 600 feet and damaged nearly everything on the left side from the windshield to the tire. Fellow competitor Chris Moore graciously lent Gadson the essential parts to get the bike back in the program. After acquiring the mandatory new helmet and re-passing tech inspection, Gadson scored three wins and a best ET of 9.31 at 154 mph en route to the runner-up performance.

Davidson says the damage to the bike is of little importance in the big scheme of things. “It’s only a motorcycle and we can fix it. I’m just glad that Rickey didn’t get hurt,” Davidson said. “Rickey’s been racing for a long time and sometimes these things happen. Rickey and I raced each other for years, and I know how good he is. I’m glad to have him on my bike. He did an amazing job getting to the final.”

Atlanta winner Vince Woska qualified in the No. 5 spot with a respectable 9.36 at 154 mph and recorded Top Speed for the class at 159.36 mph. Woska collected a first round win and maintains the No. 3 spot in the AMA/Prostar points series, 34 points behind Gadson, and 48 behind leader Chip Hunter. Davidson says the Woska’s played a critical role in getting Gadson’s bike ready for the race.

“The Woska’s showed phenomenal sportsmanship. They took the time to help prepare Rickey’s motorcycle, the same guy that they are chasing in the points series,” Davidson said. “I think it shows what kind of people they are.”

Davidson also praised the Mirror Image Pro Street Team for an exceptional outing. “Ronnie Mitchell and Phil Stoll came out of the trailer with a bang. Phil qualified #1 and Ronnie tuned him to the highest mph of any street bike in history with a pass over 202 mph,” Davidson said. “They have been getting great 60-foot times all season. I’m just as happy to see our Dragshock is helping apply all of that power to the track on the other end also.”

Next up for Team Brock’s Performance will be the PR Factory Store Nationals from St. Louis, Mo., June 4th-5th at Gateway International Raceway. Davidson’s only dilemma now is figuring out how to get parts for the brand new bikes. “Right now we are in big trouble because this year’s GSXRs are so new that we can’t get parts to fix them yet. The parts are in such high demand because Suzuki Japan is using everything they have to put more bikes together,” Davidson said.
