Woska on Top in Rain Delayed Spring Nationals

By: Jack Korpela

Brock’s Performance Products team member and AMA/Prostar 1000 Super Sport points leader, Vince Woska, qualified his GSX-R1000 on the pole for the third consecutive event at the rain-postponed Lucas Oil Spring Nationals from Dinwiddie, VA, May 6-7.

“We struggled a lot during Friday testing with new suspension settings to match my riding style and worn-out clutch problems. My dad, Vince Sr., was able to pinpoint our issues and sort them out before race day. I ran a 9.17 and had a half-a-tenth on the rest of the field after qualifying, so I felt pretty comfortable,” Woska said. “We were getting into a nice rhythm.”

“The conditions were great and Vince rode really well. The corrected altitude was about 700 feet on Sunday,” Davidson said. “It doesn’t get much better than that.”

Virginia marked the second straight event in which Woska posted low elapsed-time and top speed of the meet. Last month at the MTC Elmer Trett Nationals from Atlanta GA, Woska qualified No.1 with a 9.248, and set low elapsed-time and top speed of the meet with a 9.238 at 154.93 mph. This time he did it with a new national record of 9.09 at 158 mph.

“It all came together on race day,” Woska said. “We had great weather conditions. It was even cooler and less windy than Saturday. The bike was a little up on power from last race and was running flawlessly. I got the riding the style down and starting laying down some of my quickest ever 330s.”

“We tried some new components on the bike,” Davidson said. “We spent quite a bit more time on the dyno prior to this race so when Vince showed up all he would have do is acclimate himself to the new parts.” The most important component was the addition of our Brock’s Performance Dragshock by Ohlins. We already had an aftermarket shock which Vince Sr. believed was working well. I convinced them to step up to the Ohlins set-up which we had perfected on Gadson’s bike last year, and the results were immediate. More consistency and a new E.T. record the first time out. This class is very tough. You have to count every hundredth.”

Woska won his first two match-ups with elapsed-times of 9.10, and 9.09, before a rainstorm moved in that pushed the remainder of the race to the next AMA/Prostar event. Click here to see video of the 9.09 pass. (Windows Media Player Format)

“Obviously I wanted to finish this race because we had so much momentum” Woska said. “At least we’ll get some more practice in.”

As per the strict tech rules, Woska is not permitted to take apart his engine and the cases where marked accordingly.

Another bright spot for the Brock’s Performance Product’s team occurred as Danny Payton qualified second with a 9.22 and posted a 9.13 on Sunday.

They are doing a great job,” Davidson said. “Chris Hill at Performance Psycle in Knoxville, TN is doing a great job tuning the bike, and DJ has really stepped up his riding.”

Brock’s Performance Products is also pleased to announce that the American Suzuki-backed Velocity Racing team will being using Brock’s Performance Exhaust systems for the remainder of the season on their non-turbo charged Super Street entry piloted by Mike Slowe.

Next up for the Brock’s Performance Product’s riders will be the Schnitz Memphis Blues Nationals and the conclusion of the Lucas Oil Spring Nationals at Memphis, TN, June 9th – June 11th.

Vince Woska would like to thank Brock Davidson of Brock's Performance Products. “None of this would be possible without his support, time, effort, and friendship,” Woska said.

“Thanks to Lang and Lee Hindle of Hindle Performance Exhaust,” Woska said. “The Hindle family has been working with Brock’s Performance to produce the fastest exhaust systems for Sportbikes on the planet, and we have been fortunate enough to have been given the opportunity to prove it on the track. Thank you for your support and a great product.”
